An inward-looking person, group, company, or country is more interested in itself than in other people or the outside world. The word carries : the speaker thinks this turning-in is a problem — too closed, too self-absorbed, not curious enough about others. A country that becomes inward-looking may care less about its neighbours. A team that is inward-looking may stop listening to customers. Though actually, looking inward can be wise in other words (thinking about your own feelings); this adjective is the version of that idea. You will meet it in news and essays more than in playground talk.
