Inverness is a town in the north of Scotland. People often call it the capital of the Highlands — the wild, mountainous north — even though that 'capital' is more a feeling and a role than a strict government title. It sits where the River Ness meets the sea, and that is exactly what the name is saying. Nearby is Loch Ness, the famous long lake. Say in Inverness for living or staying there, as with most town names. It is a proper name, so it always keeps a capital I. Though actually there is also an old-fashioned long coat called an Inverness cape, named after the place; the word you are learning here is the town.

A type of overcoat constructed without sleeves and having a shoulder cape extending to the wrists. The best examples are quite heavy, made from Harris tweed; often associated with Sherlock Holmes.
