Internationalism is a belief about countries: they should not only look after themselves. They should work together, help each other, and not treat another nation as an enemy just because it is “other”. A person who holds this belief is an internationalist.
Though actually, the word is a little bigger than “be nice to other countries”. In it names a family of ideas, and people who all say they believe in internationalism still argue. Some want more open trade and more talking between governments. Some, especially on the left, want workers in every country to stand together, and they may dislike strong nationalism. So the - is a camp, not one tidy plan.
It is a formal, serious word. You meet it in news, history, and , not in chat with friends. A company with offices in many countries may boast about its “internationalism”, but that is mostly sounding grand — the tighter meaning is still a belief about how nations should act. Do not mix it with international, which is only the adjective “between countries”. Internationalism is the belief.
