1. 1

The Internationale is a famous political song. It began in French as L’Internationale, with music by Pierre De Geyter, and it became the anthem of socialist and labour movements around the world — the song people sing about workers of all countries standing together. You write it with a capital I, and in English we usually say the Internationale. Though actually, it is not “the international song” in a vague tourist sense, and it is not a country’s national anthem. Students who only know the adjective international sometimes miss that this is a proper name for one specific song.
