In film and video, to intercut is to jump back and forth: you show a bit of one scene, then a bit of another, then back again, so the two lines of pictures — or sounds — take turns. If a film is intercut with music or old photos, those pieces appear here and there through the film, not all in one block. It is a workshop word for editors and film students, not a word most people use at dinner. There is also a noun, an intercut, meaning one of those cuts. The past form is still intercut, not “intercutted.” Though actually, in casual talk someone may say a film is “intercut” just to mean it keeps jumping, even when an editor would use a more exact word.
