Intel is a famous American company that makes semiconductor chips — the tiny pieces of electronics that do the thinking inside many computers. It is best known for microprocessors, the main chips in a great number of PCs. For years, “Intel inside” on a laptop was a kind of boast, like a brand stamp people trusted. In Taiwan the company name is the name people actually say; it is not a description you translate. Though actually, look out: intel with a small i is also casual English for intelligence, meaning useful or secret information (“Any intel on the meeting?”).
