    An integument is a covering that wraps and protects what is inside — skin, a shell, a tough outer coat. use it for an animal’s outer covering. use it for the layers around an ovule, which help form the coat of a seed. It is a lab and textbook word. You would not call your an integument, even though a covers you; that would sound like a joke. For ordinary coverings, say skin, shell, or coating.
