An insurrectionist is a person who joins, leads, or argues for an insurrection — that violent try, from inside a country, to take power by force. The word names the person, not the fighting itself. You can also use it as a describing word: insurrectionist ideas, an insurrectionist group. It is formal and usually , a label from news, police, or court, not a name someone is happy to wear. Rebel is broader and can even sound brave in a story. Revolutionary often means someone who wants a whole new system. Insurgent is a fighter-against-the-government word from news and the army. An insurrectionist is tied more tightly to that one kind of rising.
