When you do something insouciantly, you do it with a light, cheerful kind of not-caring. You are not worried, and you do not look worried. The feeling is closer to a shrug with a smile than to being cold or rude. It is a rather , slightly stylish adverb — novels and careful writing use it more than the school corridor. People write she smiled insouciantly, he insouciantly, as if nothing could touch them. The adjective is ; the noun is insouciance. Though actually, English borrowed the air of it from French, and that matters for the tone: this is not the same as I don't give a damn, which can sound angry. This one is airy, almost elegant. Younger speakers often just say casually or like I don't care, and they are close, but they lose that light ‘no worry at all’.
