Ineptly means “in a or unskilful way.” You put it next to a verb to say the action was badly done — not just unlucky, but showing little skill. Same slightly formal, judging tone as inept. In speech, people more often say badly, clumsily, or they made a mess of it. Though actually, badly can mean many things (, very, with a poor result). Ineptly points at the doing: the hands, the plan, the words were not up to the job.
