The inception of a company, school, hospital, or other organisation is the moment it first starts to exist. You almost never use this word about a person, a day, or a small everyday job; it belongs to formal writing, and it nearly always appears in the set phrase since its inception, meaning from the very first day that group was founded. Ordinary speech just says start, beginning, or founding. Though actually, many students meet the word first from a 2010 film, where inception meant planting an idea in someone’s mind by going down through layers of dreams. That film use is newer and special. If a news story says a bank has grown since its inception in 1962, there are no dreams in the sentence — it only means since the bank was set up. There is a rare verb incept, but people do not use it in normal English.
