If something is inadvertent, you did it without realizing what you were doing. An inadvertent error. An inadvertent click. An inadvertent insult — you did not mean to hurt, but the words still landed. It describes the act or the result, not a lazy person as a whole. Slightly formal; news and school writing like it. In speech, “I didn’t mean to” does much of the same work. Though actually it is not a pair with “advertisement”. The old Latin idea is “not turning your mind toward it”. Students who spot inside sometimes think of ads; that is a different road in modern English. The everyday -ly form is inadvertently.
