    Imprecision is the noun: the state of not being clear or exact. It names the looseness itself, not the person doing it. A drawing can have imprecision (the lines wobble). A report can have imprecision (the figures are rounded, or the words leave room). You will meet it in careful writing — science, law, school essays — more than at the dinner table. In conversation we usually say “it’s a bit vague” or “that’s not exact”. Though actually, a little imprecision is often on purpose: “around three o’clock” is kinder and more honest than a fake exact time. The opposite idea is precision. One more thing: imprecision is not a lie. A lie is wrong on purpose. Imprecision is loose, fuzzy, or not fully pinned down.
