An importer is a person, a company, or a country that buys goods from other countries so those goods can be sold at home. If a Taiwan shop sells coffee grown in Brazil, the business that brought that coffee in is an importer. The opposite direction is an exporter — the one who sends goods out. You will see the word on the news, on boxes, and in business class. It is a plain job-word, not emotional. Though actually, a whole country can be called an importer, not only a company: a country that buys a lot of oil is a major oil importer. Do not mix it with important; they look a little alike on the page, but they are different words with different stress.
