An iMac is a desktop computer from Apple. The screen and the computer live in one piece, so there is usually no separate box under the table. Apple made the first iMacs in the late 1990s in bright, almost toy-like colours, and that look was the point: a home computer that did not feel grey and . Later iMacs became thin and silver, then colourful again. People say iMac for this family of machines. They do not usually say it for a MacBook (that one closes like a book) or for an iPad. It is a brand name, so you keep the small i and the capital M.
iMac(蘋果的一體成型電腦)
組成The i at the front comes from Internet — Apple wanted a computer that got you onto the internet easily. Mac is short for Macintosh, Apple’s older computer name. Macintosh itself was named after a kind of apple; that apple name goes back to a Scottish family name, and that name goes back to Gaelic mac, meaning “son”. So iMac is “internet” + “Mac”.
