If you are ill-prepared, you are not ready for something that is coming — a test, a trip, a talk, a storm. You did not pack, practise, or think ahead enough. Teachers use it a lot about exams; news uses it about governments and hospitals. It is a little more formal than “not ready.” Though actually, it often carries a small blame: not just “the thing hasn’t started,” but “someone should have got ready and didn’t.” You can also be ill-prepared even if you tried, if what you did was the wrong kind of getting ready — studying the wrong pages, packing summer clothes for a mountain.
「ill-prepared」指準備不足的，也就是事情快要到了，你卻還沒準備好，像是考試、旅行、演講或暴風雨。它表示你沒有事先打包、練習或想清楚。這個字比一般說沒準備好正式一點，所以老師常拿來講考試，新聞常拿來講政府或醫院。
它通常還帶著一點責備的味道，意思不只是事情還沒開始，而是本來應該有人事先準備，卻沒有去做。
不過，即使努力過，如果方向錯了，也還是會被說成準備不足，例如讀錯了範圍，或是去山上卻只帶夏天的衣服。
