A big lizard from the warm parts of the Americas — Central and South America and the Caribbean. Green iguanas are the famous ones: they can grow well over a metre long counting the tail, they have a row of spines down the back and a loose flap of skin under the chin, and they climb trees and eat leaves and fruit. They look like small dragons, which is why people notice them. In English the word turns up in three places: nature programmes, holiday stories ('there was an iguana sitting on the wall by the pool'), and pet-keeping, since iguanas are kept as exotic pets and are hard to look after. It is a countable noun: one iguana, two iguanas. Pronounce it in three beats with a 'w' sound in the middle: i-GWA-na. Note that the middle vowel is a wide 'ah'.
組成Borrowed from Spanish iguana, which took it from Taíno, a language of the Caribbean. So the word travelled: Taíno to Spanish to English, along with the animal itself.
