1. 1

Something identifiable can be picked out as itself: you can tell what it is, or who it is. A bird is identifiable if you can tell which kind it is. A person in a photo is identifiable if you can say who they are.

Something identifiable某樣東西identifiable的話,can be picked out as itself就可以被指認出它是什麼:you can tell what it is, or who it is你分辨得出它是什麼,或它是誰。A bird is identifiable一隻鳥是identifiable的,if you can tell which kind it is如果你分辨得出牠是哪一種。A person in a photo is identifiable照片裡的人是identifiable的,if you can say who they are如果你講得出他們是誰。

Police and news writers use it a lot: no identifiable suspects; an identifiable brand on the bag. It does not mean “important” or “special.” It only means you can tell what or who it is.

Police and news writers use it a lot警方和新聞寫作者很常用這個字:no identifiable suspectsno identifiable suspects(沒有可辨認的嫌犯)、an identifiable brand on the bagan identifiable brand on the bag(包包上可辨認的品牌)。It does not mean “important” or “special.”它不是「重要」或「特別」的意思。It only means you can tell what or who it is它只是說你分辨得出那是什麼、或那是誰。

Though actually, people now stretch it toward “easy to notice” (“an identifiable style”), which is a little looser than the strict “you can name it” sense. That looser use is common, so you will meet both.

Though actually不過其實,people now stretch it toward “easy to notice”人們現在也會把它延伸成「容易被注意到」(“an identifiable style”像an identifiable style,很有辨識度的風格),which is a little looser than the strict “you can name it” sense這比嚴格的「你叫得出名字」的意思要鬆一點。That looser use is common這個比較鬆的用法很常見,so you will meet both所以兩種你都會遇到。

The opposite feeling is “no one can tell” — too unclear to name.

The opposite feeling is “no one can tell”相反的感覺是「沒有人分辨得出來」——too unclear to name不清楚到說不出名字。
