This這 is the ordinary English word是英文裡普通常見的說法; we do not normally say “ice stick”我們通常不會說「ice stick」。 It它 is ice plus an old piece ickle是ice加上一個古字ickle組成的, which already meant a bit of ice後者本來就是指一小塊冰。 Later後來, the spelling拼法 moved toward other nouns ending in -icle往其他以-icle結尾的名詞靠攏。
An ice cube is a small block in a drink; an is a huge mass floating in the sea — neither of those is an icicle.
An ice cube冰塊 is a small block in a drink是飲料裡的一小塊冰; an iceberg冰山 is a huge mass floating in the sea是漂在海上的一大塊冰 — neither of those is an icicle這兩個都不是icicle(冰柱)。
組成ice + old ickle (a bit of ice). Later spelled like other nouns in -icle (the older shape would have been -ickle).
