Icebound means shut in by ice, especially so that nothing can move. A harbour, a ship, or a stretch of coast can be icebound: so much ice has formed around it that boats cannot go in or out. Explorers’ ships in the far north or south were often icebound for months. This is not the word you need for a cold drink or a winter morning in — that is just cold or frozen. Icebound is for places and vehicles trapped by real sea-ice or river-ice. It sounds a little old and story-like, the kind of word you meet in history and adventure books more than in chat. Though actually, people sometimes use it loosely for a city buried in a snowstorm, but the core meaning is “held by ice, cannot go.”
