Ibiza is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea, southwest of (another Spanish island). A lot of European tourists go there. In British English especially, Ibiza has a strong picture: young people, night clubs, drinking, and dancing all summer. That picture is real — the island is famous for huge clubs. Though actually, that is not the whole place. Away from the club towns there are quiet villages, family beaches, and old salt works. Locals speak Spanish and ; the name is Eivissa. English borrowed the Spanish spelling Ibiza. For students this is a place name you meet in travel and pop songs, not a word that changes like a verb. The name itself is neutral; the “party island” feeling comes from the holiday story, which is only one face of the island.
