An ibex is a wild goat that lives high in the mountains, not on a farm. Ibex live in parts of Europe, Asia, and North Africa. What people notice first is the horns: on the male they are long, thick, and curve up and back. Ibex are very good at standing on tiny bits of rock. Nature films love the Alpine ibex of the European mountains. Though actually, ibex is a group name — there are several kinds, and some books give them their own names. This is not a word you need in daily English. Zoo signs, hunters, and documentaries use it. It is a plain animal name, a little school-book in feel. Do not picture a small pet goat, and do not mix it with ibis, which is a bird.
組成From Latin ībex, a name for this kind of mountain goat (Latin also used a nearby word for chamois). It may have come from Iberian or Aquitanian, old languages of the western mountains between Spain and France. It is probably akin to Old Spanish bezerro, which became modern Spanish becerro, a young cow in its first year.
