    A word ending (-ian) added to a name or noun to mean a person who belongs to a place or group, or who works in a subject.

    「-ian」是加在名字或名詞後面的字尾，可以想成「屬於…、來自…、做…的人」。例如 Eton（伊頓公學）＋ -ian → Etonian（伊頓的學生）；music ＋ -ian → musician（音樂家）。它把一個地方或領域，變成「那裡的人」。

Think of -ian as a small tag you stick on the end of a place or a subject, and the whole thing turns into a person: Canada + -ian = Canadian, history + -ian = historian, music + -ian = musician. The tag says 'one of these' or 'the one who does this'.

    A male given name from Scottish Gaelic Eòin, equivalent to English John.
