Used especially about news: stories that cover a very small place — one town, one neighbourhood, even a few streets — not the whole country and not even the whole city. A hyperlocal news page might tell you the school is closed, the market has a new stall, or this road is blocked this morning. That is the meaning you will meet first. Though actually, shops and apps have borrowed the word too, to mean right around you, not only journalism. It still feels like a media and business word. Neighbours chatting about the street do not usually say hyperlocal; they just say what happened next door.
