Hustings belongs to elections, especially in Britain and places that follow British political talk. If a politician is on the hustings, they are out trying to win votes: making speeches, answering questions, moving from town to town. The word names that whole campaigning process, not a single speech. Long ago a husting was a raised platform where people spoke. The plural hustings became the usual word, and later people treated that plural as one thing — the hustings. It is not everyday American English; there people say the campaign trail. British newspapers still use it. It sounds a little official and a little old. It has nothing to do with hustle.
