A huntress is a female hunter. You meet her most often in myths, poems, paintings, and games: a goddess with a bow, a woman tracking an animal in a forest. In everyday talk, many people now just say hunter for a woman too. The old ending -ess marks a female role, and some speakers feel it makes the woman a special extra case, so they drop it. Huntress is also used as a girl’s name, the feminine form of Hunter. None of this makes the word wrong; it tells you which room it lives in now — stories, names, and older writing more than a news report about a real hunting licence.
女獵人(神話、故事、遊戲裡較常見;現實中多人直接說 hunter)
組成A variant of hunteress, from Middle English hunteresse: hunter + -ess, possibly on the model of words like mistress. Also the feminine form of the name Hunter.
