If a situation is -dory, everyone feels happy and there are no problems — or that is the tidy meaning. It is informal, a bit old and bouncy, more American than British. A parent or a sitcom character might say “Don’t worry, everything is -dory.” Teenagers use it less, unless they are quoting someone older. Though actually, the voice often does the real work. Said with a tight smile, “everything’s -dory” can mean the opposite: I am putting a bright lid on a mess. Listen to the speaker, not only the words. It does not mean a man is good-looking, even though can.
