Humberside was a county in the northeast of England, around the Humber — a wide river that opens into the sea. The county was created in 1974 and taken apart in 1996. The land is now split into Kingston upon Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, and North East Lincolnshire. Though actually, the name did not vanish with the map: people still say Humberside in the names of old clubs, sports teams, and the airport, so you may meet the word even though the county is gone. It is a place name, always with a capital H. You will see it in news about that corner of England, or when someone older talks about where they grew up.
