A humanist is someone who believes that people can live good, meaningful lives through reason and kindness, without religion — humanists usually focus on human welfare in this life. The word also has an older meaning: a scholar of the Renaissance who studied classical literature and put human beings at the centre of learning. It works as a noun or as a describing word.
