Humanely is the adverb of humane. If you treat someone humanely, you are not cruel, and you try not to make them suffer more than they have to. You can treat animals humanely, run a prison more humanely, or end an animal's life humanely — that last use is common and a little heavy: it means the death is made as gentle as death can be. The word is a little formal. It is humane plus -ly. It looks like humanly, and they are a piecewise : the pieces match, but humanly in modern English usually means in a way a human can do (as in humanly possible), not kindly. Mix those two and the sentence quietly changes meaning.
組成humane + -ly. A piecewise doublet of humanly (same kinds of pieces, different history and, today, different meaning).
