HUD is the usual short name in the United States for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. That is a national government office. Its work is about homes and cities: helping people find somewhere to live, watching how towns grow, and running some housing programmes. Americans say the three letters H-U-D, not a little word that sounds like “hud.” It is US and news talk; people in Taiwan do not need it for daily English, but they will see it in American stories about rent, public housing, or city plans. This HUD is only that department. Other English words spelled the same way have other jobs — a heads-up display on a car or game screen is a different of different words, and the personal name Hud has a different story again.
組成The letters stand for Housing and Urban Development. Other words spelled Hud / HUD are not this office: one noun is compared with hood (“a covering”), and one personal name comes from Arabic Hūd.
