A houseboat is a boat fitted so that people can live on it, usually on a river, a canal, or a calm lake — not out on a rough sea. It has rooms, a place to cook, beds: a small home that floats. Some people live on a houseboat all year; others use one for holidays. It is still a boat, so it can move, though many stay tied up in one place for a long time. Though actually, a cruise ship with cabins is not a houseboat. A houseboat is meant to be a home, or a home-like stay, on inland water.
