Houmous is a thick, pale food paste made from chickpeas, usually mixed with sesame paste, lemon, garlic and oil. People eat it with bread — often pita — or with raw vegetables. Houmous is simply another spelling of hummus: the British spelling you see on supermarket tubs in the UK. The extra o does not change the food or the sound much. Though actually, it sits dangerously close to humus (one m, no o), which is the dark, rich part of soil. That is a different word. Houmous is always the dip.
