A hot-button is a problem or subject that makes people argue and feel strongly — money, , whose turn it is to do the dishes. You will hear it most as a describing word before a noun: a hot-button issue, a hot-button topic. News and political talk love it. The picture is a button so “hot” that if you press it, the room explodes. It is informal to neutral. Though actually it is not a real button, and it is not only about huge public fights: any subject that splits a group can be a hot button, even inside one family.
hot-button 指一碰就會引起爭論、讓大家情緒激動的問題或話題，例如錢、政治，或誰該洗碗。它最常放在名詞前面當形容詞，像「a hot-button issue」（敏感議題）、「a hot-button topic」（敏感話題）。新聞與政治談話很愛用這個字，畫面像一個按下去整個房間都會炸開的按鈕。
它的語氣從口語到中性都可以，而且不只限於大型的公共爭論。任何會讓一群人意見分裂的話題都可以是 hot-button，連家庭裡也可能有。
