Horseplay is rough, noisy play in which people push, chase, or pretend to fight for fun. Nobody is really trying to hurt anyone — though actually someone can get hurt by accident, which is why teachers and parents use the word when they want it to stop. It is informal. You can also use it as a verb, but students mostly meet the noun. There is no horse in the game. The horse piece is probably from watching horses play in a wild way, or from an older use of horse to mean strong, big, or coarse.
