Horlicks is a British malted-milk drink. You mix the powder with hot milk, or sometimes hot water, and people in the UK have long taken a mug of it at night to feel settled before bed. It began as Horlick's Infant and Invalids Food, named after James and William Horlick, the brothers who made it — so the drink is literally Horlick's, the brothers' stuff. You will meet it in British books, old , and in India and a few other places where the brand grew deep roots. It is not an everyday Taiwan drink. Though actually, in informal British English, to make a Horlicks of something is to make a mess of it. That use is a polite stand-in for a ruder word that sounds a bit like Horlicks. Students need the drink first; the slang is extra, and very British.
