A hoop is a large ring, usually made of plastic, metal, or wood. A basketball hoop is the ring you throw the ball through to score. A hula hoop is a big plastic ring people spin around their waist for fun or exercise. The phrase "jump through hoops" means to go through a lot of difficult or steps to get something done.
