Hooey is silly or empty talk — a story or a claim that is not worth believing. If someone says “That’s a load of hooey,” they mean it is nonsense. It is informal American English, a bit old and , the kind of word a might still enjoy. Younger speakers more often say nonsense, rubbish, or a ruder word. It is softer than the strongest swear words, but you still would not put it in a formal letter or a school essay. Though actually, nobody is sure where it came from, so any origin you hear is only a maybe — which is a useful reminder that even tidy word-stories can be hooey themselves.

組成It does not split in a clear way. It may be related to phooey, it may be a softer stand-in for horseshit, or it may come from a rude Ukrainian or Russian word. People also compare the cry hooie and German hui. None of these is certain.
