Homosexuality is the noun: the fact of being attracted to the same sex. It names that way of loving, not one person. You will see it in textbooks, news, and law. Because it is a long word ending in -ity, it can sound like a medical problem. Though actually, it is not an illness; it is only a name for who someone is drawn to. Everyday English often just says being gay. The word was built from homosexual plus -ity, after German Homosexualität.
