1. 1

Holyhead is a town and a port in North Wales. It sits on Holy Island, just off the larger island of Anglesey. The important thing about it, for most , is the ferry: ships carry passengers and cars from Holyhead across to the Republic of Ireland, especially towards Dublin. If you go between Britain and Ireland by boat, this is one of the main places you leave from. It is a place name, so it takes a capital H. People say it as one word. Though actually, the spelling looks like “holy head,” as if it meant a saint’s head; that is not how English speakers hear the town.
