A heliport is a small airport for helicopters. Planes do not use it. It has a place to land and take off, and often a little more than a painted circle — fuel, a waiting area, somewhere to park the machine. You find heliports on hospital roofs, beside big offices, near oil fields, or on the edge of a city. It is not as large as an airport, and it is not only a pad of concrete: a helipad is the landing spot itself; a heliport is the small port built around that idea. The word was made to sound like airport.
