If you are heedless, you do not pay attention to something you ought to notice — a warning, a rule, danger, or another person's feelings. It is stronger than just being a bit busy or looking the other way. A heedless driver is not merely in a hurry; they are not taking care. You will often meet it with of: heedless of the risk, heedless of advice, heedless of what people think. It sounds a little formal, the kind of word a teacher, a judge, or a news writer uses when they want to say someone really should have listened. Though actually, in everyday talk many people would just say they weren't paying attention, or they didn't care. Heedless is the sharper, written way to say that. It is not a kind word; it points to a real gap in care.
