A heartthrob is a famous person — most often a man, an actor or a singer — who a lot of people, especially women and girls, find very good-looking and . Magazines put his face on the cover. Fans scream at the concert. The word is playful, not a serious, scientific word. Though actually, people stretch it. A friend might call a a heartthrob as a joke, even if he is not famous at all. Older writing used it more for men; younger people sometimes use it for anyone who makes hearts jump. The picture behind the word is simple: your heart throbs — it beats hard — because you like looking at this person.
