The top people sit there, and the big decisions start there, even if the company has shops or factories in many other places. You almost always meet this word after is, are, or was: The bank is headquartered in . People do not often say I headquarter the company in everyday talk; the -ed form, used like a describing word, is the one that sounds natural. It belongs to news and business English, so it feels a bit formal. Headquarters looks plural, but the company is still singular: The company is headquartered…, not are, unless you are talking about more than one company.
