Headgear is the group word for things you wear on your head: hats, caps, helmets, hoods, and the special kit riders, workers, or players put on to cover or protect the head. It does not usually mean a tiny hair clip or a pair of glasses; it is more like “the gear for the head,” the stuff that sits on top. You meet it in rules, shops, and sport (“protective headgear”), and it sounds a bit official. In everyday talk people just name the thing — hat, helmet, cap. Though actually, one person’s headgear is another person’s fashion: a winter hat and a motorcycle helmet both count, but they live in very different worlds.
