Hazing is what some clubs, teams, or schools do to new members: they make the newcomers do silly, , or even dangerous things 'so they can join.' It can look like jokes, but it is not a fair game — the old members hold the power, and the new person often cannot really say no. In the United States it is especially tied to university social clubs, and many schools now ban it because people have been hurt. The is the practice (hazing); the verb is to haze someone. It has nothing to do with haze in the air — the thin mist or dirty city air.
