The Hay Wain is a famous painting by the English artist John Constable. It shows horses pulling a wooden farm wagon through a shallow river, with trees and a cottage beside the water. A wain is an old word for a wagon, so the picture is literally a hay wagon in the countryside. English people have long treated this as the classic quiet-country scene, which is why it is printed on cards, posters, and calendars. The usual title is The Hay Wain (three words); Haywain as one word is a label for that same picture. Constable here is the painter's family name, not a police officer.
