A hart is a male deer, in older English especially a fully grown male red deer. Hunters once used a whole set of careful names, and hart was one of them — not just any male deer, and not the everyday word now. In a city today people say deer, or stag. Hart lives on in pub names (The White Hart), coats of arms, place names, and poetry. Though actually, hart and heart sound the same in English, but they are different words: one is a deer, the other is the organ in your chest and the word for feeling. They are not a word family; they only sound alike.

組成From Middle English hert, from Old English heorot “stag”, from a very old root meaning “horn”. Dutch hert and German Hirsch are cousins. It is a doublet of Heorot, the hall-name in the poem Beowulf. It is not from heart.
