A hangout is a place you like to go again and again, often to relax or meet friends — a café, a park bench, a shop, a ’s house. It is informal. You would say it to friends, not usually in a formal report. The verb is hang out (two words): to spend time somewhere in a loose, easy way, without a big plan. The noun hangout grew from that. Though actually, people stretch it: a hangout can be a favourite website or chat group too, not only a street place. It does not mean hangover (the sick feeling after too much drink), and it is not as heavy as , which is a place to hide.
