A handsfree machine is one you can use without holding it or pressing it with your fingers. The usual picture is a phone in a car: a handsfree kit lets you talk while you drive, with a speaker or an earpiece, so both hands stay on the wheel. Headsets and some kitchen gadgets get the same label. People very often write it hands-free, with a hyphen; shops and car manuals use both spellings for the same thing. It is a practical, modern word. It does not mean the machine has no hands. It means you do not need yours.
